How It Happened Then — and How It’s Happening Again
Fascists never admit they are fascists. They believe they are the normal ones and refuse to see their own actions as wrong. Their language is divisive and filled with blame—targeting certain groups, organizations, races, or religions as the source of all problems. They always need an enemy, and it’s usually anyone who doesn’t think or believe exactly as they do. Differing opinions drive them to anger because they cannot tolerate dissent.
This is exactly how the Nazis behaved, and how communists have operated throughout history. In modern times, these same types of people often masquerade as patriotic Americans. Yet beneath the surface, their behavior mirrors the very ideologies they claim to hate. They are anti–freedom of speech unless that speech echoes their own beliefs. Anything else, they demand to be censored or banned — just as the Nazis did in Germany.
Who are the fascists and Nazis today? They are Americans who wave the flag while pointing fingers and yelling for others to be silenced—exercising their own freedom of speech and expression to condemn those they dislike. The Nazis did the exact same thing, but these people cannot see it. In their minds, their beliefs are pure, superior, and righteous, and anything that contradicts them should be outlawed. It’s the same dangerous mindset Germany fell victim to a century ago—only now it’s disguised in the language of patriotism and freedom.
What’s most troubling is that even when confronted with this truth, they still cannot see the resemblance. They genuinely believe they are the patriots and that everyone else is the problem. This is what years of indoctrination, propaganda, and social conditioning can do to a society’s collective mind.
I’m certain this is what happened in Germany as well. Many citizens believed they were “fixing” their country by eliminating the so-called “bad people.” Today, millions of Americans are being led to think the same way—that silencing or erasing those who disagree will somehow make the nation stronger.
For those who wonder how Germany allowed the Nazis to destroy so much, just look at yourselves and those around you—that’s how it happened.
