Business Contact Information Transparency Act of 2024
Section 1: Title
This Act shall be known as the “Business Contact Information Transparency Act of 2024.”
Section 2: Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to ensure that all businesses maintain transparency and accessibility in their contact information, allowing consumers to reach them easily and efficiently.
Section 3: Definitions
- Business: Any entity engaged in commercial, industrial, or professional activities, including but not limited to sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and non-profits.
- Contact Information: Includes a working phone number, email address, and physical address of the business.
- Virtual and Digital Locations: Any online presence of a business, including websites, social media profiles, and other digital marketing platforms.
Section 4: Requirements for Contact Information Display
- Physical Locations:
- All businesses must prominently display their contact information at their physical locations, including a working phone number, email address, and physical address.
- Virtual and Digital Locations:
- All business websites, social media pages, and other digital marketing platforms must display a working phone number that is managed by a human employee during all advertised business hours.
Section 5: Phone Management Requirements
- Human Management:
- All phone numbers provided by the business must be maintained by a human employee.
- Any call to the business must be answered by a human or transferred to a human representative within 60 minutes, regardless of the initial response.
Section 6: Enforcement and Penalties
- Violations:
- Any business failing to comply with the requirements of this Act shall be subject to fines. Minimum fines shall start at $1,000 for first-time violations and may increase for subsequent violations.
- Loss of Business License:
- Businesses with repeated violations may face revocation of their business license.
- Closure of Platforms:
- Any virtual platform or channel failing to display a required phone number shall be subject to closure until compliance is achieved.
Section 7: Implementation and Review
- Effective Date:
- This Act shall take effect 90 days after its enactment to allow businesses adequate time for compliance.
- Review:
- The Act shall be reviewed every three years to assess its effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to the provisions outlined.
Section 8: Public Awareness
- Education Campaign:
- A public awareness campaign shall be conducted to inform consumers about their rights under this Act and to educate businesses on compliance requirements.
- Guidance for Businesses:
- Resources and training shall be provided to businesses to ensure understanding and adherence to contact information display guidelines.
Section 9: Severability
- Severability Clause:
- If any provision of this Act is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
